El intendente Fernando Bouvier decidió poner en funcionamiento en Arrecifes el Departamento de Medicina del Deporte Municipal, creado originalmente el 9 de julio de 1986 y actualizado mediante la ordenanza Nº 3408 del mes de agosto de 2022.
El área estará dirigida temporariamente por el médico deportólogo Dr. Ruben Angel Villa, quien trabajará ad honorem hasta tanto se llame a concurso abierto para ocupar el cargo, según lo establecido en la mencionada ordenanza.
El Departamento de Medicina del Deporte iniciará su actividad realizando completos estudios médicos gratuitos a deportistas arrecifeños de entre 4 a 12 años de edad, a modo de detectar y prevenir posibles dolencias o patologías en una etapa clave del desarrollo de los niños, que puedan afectarlos en la práctica del deporte.
Esta experiencia, abierta a todos los deportistas de ese grupo etario, se había llevado a cabo por la Municipalidad de Arrecifes en el año 2013, con importantes resultados de detección precoz de problemas de salud.
